Sinai I Agreement

The goal of this agreement, in the eyes of the Egyptians, was to reconquer as much as possible the Sinai Peninsula (occupied by Israel since 1967) through diplomacy. Although the agreement strengthened Egypt`s relations with the Western world, it reduced its relations with other members of the Arab League (especially Syria and the Palestine Liberation Organization). Article VIII. This agreement is seen by the parties as an important step towards a just and lasting peace. This is not a final peace agreement. The parties continue their efforts to negotiate a final peace agreement within the framework of the Geneva Peace Conference, in accordance with Security Council resolution 338. Within five days of the signing of the agreement between Egypt and Israel, representatives of both sides in the military working group of the Middle East Peace Conference will meet in Geneva to begin drafting a detailed protocol on the implementation of the agreement. The working group will finalize the minutes within two weeks. In order to facilitate the elaboration of the Protocol and the implementation of the Agreement and to maintain strict compliance with the ceasefire and other elements of the Agreement, the two Parties have agreed on the following principles, which form an integral part of the Agreement, as guidelines for the Working Group. The Sinai Interim Agreement, also known as the Sinai II Agreement, was a diplomatic agreement signed by Egypt and Israel on September 4, 1975. The signing ceremony took place in Geneva.

Article IV. The armed forces of the Parties shall be deployed in accordance with the following principles: (1) All Israel Defense Forces shall be stationed east of the lines designated as J and M line-shaped on the attached map. (2) All Egyptian forces are stationed west of Line E, referred to as Line E on the attached map. (3) The area between the lines is shown on the attached map as lines E and F and the area between the lines designated on the attached map as lines J and K is limited in armament and armed forces. 4. The limitation of armament and forces in the areas described in paragraph 3 shall be agreed as described in the Annex to this Regulation. 5. The area between lines E and J on the attached map is a buffer zone. In this area, the United Nations Emergency Force will continue to carry out its functions in accordance with the Israeli-Egyptian Agreement of 18 January 1974. (6) In the area south of line E and west of line M, as defined on the attached map, there will be no armed forces as defined in the annexed Annex. B.

The details of the new routes, the deployment of forces and their timing, arms and armed forces limitation, aerial reconnaissance, the operation of early warning and surveillance facilities and the use of roads, the tasks of the United Nations and other regulations shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Annex and the map, which form an integral part of this Agreement and the Protocol; which should result from the negotiations. in accordance with the Annex which, after its conclusion, forms an integral part of this Agreement. D. This agreement is not considered by Egypt and Israel as a final peace agreement. This is a first step towards a definitive, just and lasting peace, in accordance with the provisions of Security Council resolution 338 and within the framework of the Geneva Conference. C. The detailed implementation of the drawdown will be developed by military representatives of Egypt and Israel, who will agree on the stages of this process. The Joint Committee shall operate in accordance with the procedures laid down in the Protocol. They are determined to achieve a final and just peace settlement through the negotiations provided for in Security Council resolution 338, and this agreement is an important step in that direction. 5. The restrictions referred to in paragraphs 3 and 4 shall be reviewed by UNEF. Existing UNEF procedures, including the engagement of Egyptian and Israeli liaison officers with UNEF, will continue.
