The judiciary identifies needs and obligations so that things can be corrected through a process that fosters dialogue and involves both victims and perpetrators. You`ve already thought about how your grades fit into your thesis. Now, go a little further with your summary. Organize your notes with headings that match the points and sub-points you found through dialectics and gathered into your plan that you presented to your instructor. As you continue, you can identify more important subtopics that weren`t part of your original plan, or you may decide that some points aren`t relevant to your article. Determine how you will approach the contradictions between the different sources. For example, if a source cites an amazing fact that you can`t confirm anywhere else, it`s prudent to dismiss the information as unreliable. However, if you find significant disagreements between reliable sources, you should review them and evaluate each source. Which source presents a more substantiated argument or stronger evidence? It`s up to you to determine which source is most credible and why. Briefly describe one or two topics on which you want to base your persuasive essay. Based on the thesis “Governments use the death penalty as an effective tool to deter violent crime”, answer the following questions and complete the table. Most of us are inclined to try to win the arguments we are involved in. On some level, we all want to be right, and we want others to see the fault of their paths.
In most cases, however, arguments in which both sides try to win lead to losers. The most productive approach is to convince your audience to consider your opinion valid, not just the right one. It`s also helpful to set the boundaries of your argument and what you`re trying to achieve. In fact, you admit very early on that your argument is not the ultimate authority on a particular subject. Such humility can go a long way in gaining credibility and trust with the public. Your readers will know from the beginning that you are a reasonable writer, and they will trust your argument. For example, in the following concessional statement, the author advocates stricter gun control laws, but admits that this won`t solve all of our crime problems: Try to address opposing arguments as early as possible in your essay. Rhetorically speaking, it allows you to sort through your positive arguments last, to better address ideas that conflict with yours, so you can spend the rest of the essay countering those arguments. This way, you let your reader think about your argument and not someone else`s. You have the last word. In this section, you will reflect on your research and examine the information gathered. You decide what you think of your topic now.
They will synthesize or compile various information to help you answer your research questions. Finally, determine the organizational structure that best suits your article and review the plan you`ve already created and approved as a more formal sentence plan (a plan that includes more information such as sets of topics, your more organized support ideas, and the sources you want to use. Start by identifying the grades that clearly support your thesis. Select them or group them, physically or with the copy and paste function of your word processor. When identifying the crucial details that support your thesis, be sure to analyze them critically. Ask the following questions to focus your thinking: In previous chapters, you learned strategies for generating and refining a topic for a research paper. See the list of general topics below. Also think about the subjects that you feel very strongly.
Is the connection between this information and my thesis obvious, or do I have to explain it to my readers? Remember that you spent more time thinking and reading about this topic than your audience. Some links may be obvious to you and your readers. Most often, however, you should provide the analysis or explanation that shows how the information supports your thesis. As you read your notes, write down any ideas that you need to clarify these links. Factual claims can also be used to make predictions about what will happen in the future. In the summer of 2011, ten miles of a popular highway in Southern California were closed for an entire weekend. Motorists, news agencies and government officials called the closure “Carmageddon” because they suggested there would be an “inevitable and probably epic transportation link.” [5] As a result of the forecasts, motorists stayed off the roads this weekend and made alternative plans, resulting in much less traffic than expected. .
